Internet providers monitor the activity of PCs connected to them, every so often. When they perceive the connection has been inactive for a certain time they cut it, obliging the user to reconnect and lose the data they were downloading.
To avoid this situation a program called Avoid Internet Disconnection has been created. As the name suggests, it works to avoid involuntary Internet disconnections. What the program does is send a signal every four minutes so the servers know that the PC is still active. This way your connection will stay active even though you leave it for hours.
